diarrhoea quarantine - 2.5yr old

Well, not quite quarantine, but...

We have a family event tomorrow - MIL is thrilled we'll be having our belated Christmas and all her children and grandchildren will be there (10 adults, 6 children).

We've had a very mild tummy bug in the house in the last 2 weeks - DD, DH and I had one day of diarrhoea each last week. No temp, no cramping, etc, but definitely safer to be at home. DS hasn't been quite so lucky. He's in good form, eating fine, sleeping well, no temperature, no pain, but he's had awful poos since Monday. He threw up twice, once Sunday night, once Monday morning. I thought he was fine Wednesday, normal poo all day, but yesterday was a bit of a river of poo. He seemed to resume normal service again this morning, but bad again this evening. The antibac spray has been been working overtime on toilets and potties, and I've even found an antibac hand gel to use on DS in spite of the reliability of toddler handwashing .

DH thinks we can get away with going if we bring his own potty and make sure only we deal with him. I think at 2.5yrs old he'll more than likely lick or be licked by one of his cousins (they are aged 5yrs - 1.5yrs) and while his MIL will be disappointed, it's better than risking passing this on to preschoolers or his pregnant aunt. Either way, he'll bring DD, so only DS and I will miss out.

Am I being too cautious?

Oh how horrible! Not fun for any of you.

I would not go. But that's me. At least get antiviral stuff rather than antibacterial. Antibacterial will do nothing against bugs like that.

Sounds like we're of similar mind. Any MN jury members to the contrary??? Oh, and the spray and gel are zappers-of-99.9%-of-life-on-earth types, so hopefully they'll help Confused (I was being lazy with my anitbac shorthand!)

I feel really bad for mil, she's made a plum pudding and everything!
