Just gone to bump the old one and noticed it was nearly full so time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who is dealing with an asthmatic (or possibly asthmatic) child who wants hand holding, advice or just somewhere to vent!

All welcome.

DS has just been diagnosed with his third chest infection since October. Thankfully he is back at his consultant in two weeks!

Hi Peppa, dd1 is bad at the moment( woke up wheezing this morning), doesn't seem to be a chest infection just a worsening of her asthma. Hoping she improves over night as both dh and I are working tomorrow and neither of us can easily takd the day off(I'm a pharmacist and dh's boss is away so ideally he needs to be there), if necessary she'll have to go to work with dh

Ds is halfway through a course of antibitoics at the moment. Normal winter service has been resumed!

Sorry to hear they are both suffering, how did your dd get on this morning Mouse?

Dds sats are normally 98+ when she's healthy, at the minute she's not really getting above 94/95 even after ten puffs of ventolin. She's at 91/92 when asleep. She's not struggling as such not drawing in ribs or anything just still sounds a bit ruckly from the infection. She's been on antibiotics 3 days now would see how she gets on or do you think I should take her back to be seen? Hospital discharged her with sats of 95.

She got sent home, thankfully my df was able to pick her up. Dd2 took more organising as they normally meet after school and go home together. She seems a bit better tonight so hoping we can avoid antibiotics and steroids

Peppals,
SATs of 94 and above are ok even if she's usually at the higher end. They often dip while sleeping I think. If she's doing ok in herself then I suspect her body is managing things as she gets over the infection...... but always go back if you're concerned because you know her best.

Hi all, new to this thread. My 2 year old daughter has what we believe to be asthma. We got her brown inhaler yesterday as giving her ventolin simply isn't enough for her at the moment. Over the last two days she's declined massively. Constant coughing through the day. She's limiting her physical activity (usually running around constantly), and at a few points stopping speaking to as her breath caught. Tonight it's constant coughing and unfortunately combined with a cold due to recent flu vaccine.
I'm only a month or so into realising that this is asthma and it's making me so sad. I hate that she's not running around as much. I absolutely hate to think of any pain in her chest. I'd take it in a second. Family history of asthma, although not with me, but I'm all to aware of how painful it can be. I can't sleep as I am trying to listen out for signs that she's in distress with breathing. Does it get easier? I have a busy part-time job and a husband that works nights so I need to sleep. Would an attack mean she woke up? Would she be able to let me know or should I be checking throughout the night on bad nights? I'm giving a puff of brown inhaler once in morning and once in evening before bed- hope I'm
Not over medicating? Just had asthma review few days ago. How long before I start to
See improvement from using preventative inhaler? Apart from the visible sucking in of ribs and on collar bone, are there any symptoms in toddlers that would make you think that they needed
Medical attention? Sorry for all the questions. I'm really upset as my mum has nearly died before from an attack and although I know most children grow out of it I don't want that life for my daughter. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well dd1 after seeming to improve so
I didn't take her to the drs is now sounding very chesty so I think we're brewing an infection. She really can't afford to miss school now as she's year 10 and studying for GCSEs.

Just started dd1 on her emergency pred. Hoping won't have to go to ooh tonight but definitely gp in the morning if we don't.
