Eat discharge in 1 year old

Just before Christmas my one year old had a nasty ear infection which resulted in a perforated eardrum.

Ever since about every couple of weeks he seems to suddenly get quite a bit of discharge from his ear which lasts a few hours then stops. He doesn't seem unwell or in pain and has no fever.

Last time I took him to the doctor and he got antibiotics. Will take him again tomorrow as we have a new bout of ear goo.

Has anyone had any similar experience with this? Are they likely to just stick him on antibiotics again?

Should I try to get his hearing checked, or a referral to ENT or similar? I'm concerned that his eardrum will never heal if it keeps getting flooded with gunk so often Confused

DD had this and the Dr took a swab, which ended up in her being prescribed a course of (different) antibiotics. It's really frustrating, just when you think its getting better!
