Hi

I have a baby who's 5 months and his reflux the last few weeks has god worse and worse. There would be puddles of baby sick all over my house.

I went to the doctors who prescribed baby gaviscon, it's helped a little bit he still managed to be sick. He's also on anti reflux formula. It sounds really uncomfortable for him I can always here him re swallowing his milk and some times coughing.

I was wondering what people thought was best, bring on medication baby gaviscon it early weaning at 5 months.

Hi Hip. Reflux is the pits. I would visit the doctor again and mention the coughing. Depending on other factors (weight gain, discomfort etc) they may prescribe something else, there are new NICE guidelines - not sure what they recommend now. Personally, I wouldn't wean early without consulting the GP first, especially if you don't know what the underlying cause is for the reflux (could be allergy related).

I'm assuming you try to keep him as upright as possible. There's a good site here with a facebook forum that might be helpful... living with reflux.

What is his vomiting like? My DS used to projectile vomit 10x day. He could hit the hood of his pram whilst lying on his back. We tried gaviscon, anti-reflux milk and he was even on the waiting list for a fundo before a specialist nurse took one look at him and said "dairy allergy". A few weeks on Neocate sorted him right out.

Have you changed milks recently? Gone from breast-feeding to formula for example. Has he always been refluxy or has it developed recently?

Insist on a referral. Our gp was helpful but it was the paed who sorted out the drugs for our dd and she slept that night with no sick for the first time in ages.
