Hi Im new to Mumsnet. My LO is 18 months old he was born at 36 wks, and I am worried as he shows no sign of walking. He likes to stand up but only if I am holding him. He is not even talking yet but does lots of babaling. He dr has told me not to worry, but that is easier said than done. he is at the moment going for Phsio to help me. anyone else in the same boat

neither of my boys really crawled..ds1 did a weird hoppity bum shuffle thing with one leg out, one sort of under him. Spent my life patching one knee of all his trousers. ...we thought he was going to walk on his first birthday, he was up and cruising round the table, turned and let go of everything, looked all purposefully across the room and stood for about a minute and then just sat down, we were all agog with excitement and then nothing

DD did crawl, but she was very smartly up on her feet...she was desperate to keep up with her big brother

DS2, mostly just sat there like a blob until he was about 18 months! He could stand, crawl, cruise round the furniture but just did not see the point, he was the same with talking, partly cos he was the last of three, there just wasn't really any need for him to make much of an effort for anything.

It's definitely not unusual to not crawl! DD was a bum shuffler, she walked at 13 months but never crawled properly. She liked to carry things and see what was going on as she moved around.

I know a little boy who sounds similar to yours. He was referred to physio but discharged as they said his muscle tone etc was fine and he will walk in his own time.

Don't be afraid to ask for a different physio.

Hiya my son is nearly 3 he was born with right sided hemiplegia when he was a baby he wasn't moving they way a baby should at their age I took doctor and they said he was just slow but I didn't agree and demanded they send him to see a specialist he was 9 months he wasn't crawling standing nor sitting but he would roll as his means of getting around we were told he also needed to crawl in order for him to walk but still to this very day he don't crawl but is walking it took a while he started to walk at 19 months
This might not be the case for your child but your son doesn't need to crawl in order to walk I have four children and both my 2 sons have not crawled they went straight to crawling as some of the other women have said it would be better if they do crawl but as long as they are happy whether bum shuffling or crawling it doesn't matter
