Hi Im new to Mumsnet. My LO is 18 months old he was born at 36 wks, and I am worried as he shows no sign of walking. He likes to stand up but only if I am holding him. He is not even talking yet but does lots of babaling. He dr has told me not to worry, but that is easier said than done. he is at the moment going for Phsio to help me. anyone else in the same boat

Is your child a bum shuffler. Some children shuffle about on their bums until two years old. The NHS only considers not walking an issue when the child is two years old.

My son took his first steps indepedently at 20 and could only walk one step until he was two and half years old. He had 18 months of child physio. We had stretching exercises, orthorics to help him.

My son is now 13 and you would never know he a problem.

yes he is a bum shuffler, he is fast at it. His physio says he has good muscle tone, but he just isn't interested in walking.

Dd first crawled at one year, walked at fifteen months. She was born at 37 weeks.
She would stand if you held her but not cruise round furniture. When she walked there was no practising she just got up and walked across the room.
We were being monitored by the doctor but they could see no cause for the non walking.
She decided when she needed to do it,guess she had no need beforehand.

My son started at 17 months. Wasn't a bum shuffler but just wasn't interested in walking. Once he started though, he progressed quickly to independent walking. I wasn't worried as knew he'd do it when ready. Try not to worry. If doc isn't concerned then I'm sure all is fine x

My ds was a bum shuffler and walked at 16 months. His paediatrician said average age for a bum shuffler is 18 months and some don't until they are 2 years old.
