DS's growth has slowed down / stopped. He has gone from being one of the taller children to having numerous children who were shorter than him grow up past him in the last term.

His height seems to be dropping down the centiles charts:

2y9m 62nd centile
3y2m 76th
3y8m 73rd
4y0m 66th
4y3m 66th
4y4m 62nd
4y11m 42nd
5y1m 54th
5y6m 38th

He has only grown 0.5cm in 5 months.

Would you see a doctor about a growth pattern like this?

An endocrinologist will be able to guide you - definitely see the dr, but don't be brushed off by the GP. There are various things you could have done (growth hormone stimulation testing/bone age scan) but now is the time. If you are on Facebook, there is a Child Growth Foundation forum which you might find useful. Good luck.

Ask gp to refer to growth clinic which might be via paediatrician. They will do basic blood tests including for coeliac and weigh and measure properly for a baseline then you go back in six months to see growth rate. Depending on results they will discuss next steps eg growth hormone testing

Its 5 months. Children all grow at different rates. At various times my DD has been taller, and shorter, than all her mates.
Sometimes kids don't grow at all for a while, then they shoot up what seems like about a foot in a few weeks.

What centile would you say members of your family and DH's family are on? That might give you a guide as to where your son will end up.

Remember, big or long babies don't necessarily make big it tall adults. (Same for small babies/adults).

38th centile seems pretty ok. Fairly middle of the road really.
