Facial Palsy on 9 yr old

My DS was diagnosed with Facial Palsy 3 days before the 9th birthday. I am socked not to know how or what caused it, I took my DS to see the GP and he asked simple questions and few excersise on the face then told me to come back in a weeks time, didn't even ask for a blood test. Is this normal? Has anyone come across this before? What to do to help my DS get back to normal?

I've heard they usually give steroids for 5 days? Did you get given some?
