DD3 (9) went through a period of suffering frequent dizziness and nausea last year, for which she was thoroughly investigated, including an MRI scan (all clear) and full audiology tests which were all fine. She was diagnosed with Benign Paroxysmal Vertigo in Childhood and initially told to give up chocolate and cheese, but when this didn't work, she was prescribed Pizotifen (sp?) which I think is also used for migraine. Eventually the dizziness subsided and things settled down. The whole episode coincided with her struggling at school with some low level bullying which I think may have contributed to her symptoms.
After six months or so free of all this, the dizziness and nausea returned over Christmas. It's always worse in the evenings, and when she's tired, although this is a bit of a vicious circle, as she finds it difficult to get to sleep, as lying down makes her feel more dizzy...
There is a possibility that it could again be stress-related - our much loved dog, who she has known all her life, is weeks, if not days away from being put to sleep and she does suffer anxiety about this kind of thing. There was also a short-lived episode of cyber-bullying at the end of last term which upset her.
I'm going to speak to the GP in the morning to get a referral to restart the investigations, but I wondered if anyone had any experience of something similar which could give me an idea of things to suggest to the GP if I don't get anywhere.
