Dd and possible whooping cough

After a really bad cold and nasty cough for three weeks now I have taken dd (5) to the doctors. She has given her antibiotics for a chest infection but also mentioned a small chance it could be whooping cough. This is partly because dd has burst blood vessels in her eyes from coughing so hard.
She has been immunised but the doctor says studies are suggesting the vaccine isn't as protective as it used to be.
So if dd isn't better in a week I need to take her back for a blood test for whooping cough. Which will take three weeks to come back.
I am aware of how serious whooping cough can be and how easy it spreads. Dd isn't feeling ill most of the time now though.

Do I need to keep her at home for at least a week? I obviously won't be taking her to meet lots of kids but can I still take her into town tomorrow for example? She has already been stuck at home for the last week of term and all of Christmas and she is not a happy indoors girl!

I wouldn't take her anywhere until i knew for sure what it was. There will be babies that haven't been fully vaccinated out and about and if your daughtet is coughing an infectious disease all over the place you'll risk infecting young babies. Stay at home until you know what you are dealing with.
