Circumcision?

When DS (16 months) was born we were referred to a specialist and today have been to a check up a year later and been told he should be circumcised due to excess skin. We were told that it would be best to have a full circumcision as there is not enough to do a reconstruction. The doctor said it was cosmetic but seemed to put the emphasis on the surgery as quite important. I would hate to make the decision to go ahead and something went wrong or my DS resented it later in life. Anyone had any experience of this?

If the circumcision is only for cosmetic reasons I would be very reluctant to have it done. At the very least I'd get a second opinion.
