Hi, just looking for some other experiences...DS (he's 5) was admitted to hospital last Sat and had his appendix removed the next day (Sun). The appendix was burst and surgeon said there was considerable infection. DS is on IVs for fluids,painkillers and antibiotics...but just doesn't seem to be picking up. He hadn't eaten/drunk anything for nearly 8 days now ... how long could this go on for?!

Your poor ds. My brother had a burst appendix as a teenager and it really took months to feel normal. What do the drs say? Is he running a temperature still? Why did they wait a day to operate? They did this with my brother too but we were told by the surgeon that usually the nursing staff should be aware of temperature increase etc pointing to risk of peritonitis. I am sure he will turn a corner soon but I would insist that you have a proper review of his care so far and going forward. Please update us how he is going on.

@Mum4Fergus

Just wondering how it all turned out (back in 2014) my DS is 4 and just been sent home but similar to your son it is now 6 days since surgery and he still cannot eat. Vomits if he does even with anti sickness medication.
No temperatures, finished antibiotics. Just wondering how much longer it will take for him to pick up. I didn't get a clear answer in hospital.
