Im posting on behalf of my daughter mainly, but am also concerned, regarding my granddaughters poop, she is now 17 months old, has always had loose poop, but it seems to have become a lot worse of late, when she does a poop, it is like an explosion, it goes everywhere, and more often than not becomes a full clothes change, because of the mess, it seems her poop comes out the same as when it goes in, sorry to be so graphic, but you can see most of what she has eaten the day before, and there is so much of it, my daughter has taken her to the doctors, who has told her to stop cows milk, for a week, then stop the follow on formula for a week, and then if no change, to stop wheat, so we are up to stopping the wheat now as no change with the milk, so she has been eating wheat free bread etc, but still no change, my daughter is getting rather worried now, as to what could be the problem, she doesn't give her fruit too often so we don't think its that, she eats healthy, has a really good apetite, loves her food, is energetic as a toddler should be, sleeps very well, so ladies, if you could help with ideas of what else could be causing these very loose poops we would be so grateful, thankyou for reading..

Loose poos do tend to indicate some sore of food issue (my DD has a dairy allergy). Has the doctors given a lit of possible foods? Really, all you can do is work down the list and see what has an effect.

If no single food removal works - you might then need to remove two at the same time (e.g.. milk and wheat) as if they are both a problem you won't see any difference if you only remove on.

Is she otherwise healthy? - if so, try not to worry too much, as you will get there in the end.

Hi, thankyou for your reply, yes she is very healthy, full of beans, which is why its such a mystery, but we are obviously glad of that, my daughter told me today that she has withheld cows milk all weekend, and has her on the wheat free foods still, and also she has given her soya milk for 2 days, the poops are still the same, but only 1 dirty nappy a day now instead of the usual 5, so that's an improvement, so like you say, we will just keep doing what were doing, and hope things improve.

I wouldn't advise cutting things out of her diet, for a start half of those who have a problem with cow's milk protein will also have a problem with soya. If your dd suspects that DGd has an allergy or intolerance she really needs to see the GP.

just an update, granddaughter is improving imensly since the cows milk was changed for soya milk, only 2 dirty nappies now instead of 5 a day, and much more solid, (sorry for being so graphic) my daughter did take her to the gp who advised changing to soya milk, also did a poo sample, but the surgery messed up and didn't put name on sample, so had to do it again, so waiting another week for results now, but its looking likely that she may be lactose intollerent, thanks for reading and thanks for the comments,.

Glad that you're getting some progress. Happily, it is now pretty easy to replace cows milk in diets :)
