Urine test for UTI showed protein

Hi my son has bladder/ kidney reflux, is on prophylactic antibiotics and we test occasionally if he seems off / poorly/ not eating etc incase of a UTI.

I did a 'clean catch' with him but he kind of squeezed it out and it was dark - possibly in hind sight not the best test?! The drs dipped it but said it had protein so sent it off.

I'm now a little panicked! But wondering if the sample was not a good one. Can this happen with protein in wee?

My sons was tested in hospital recently and it showed protein but the dr didn't think it was anything to be concerned about as it can be present when they have been poorly in general. We then went on to do a 24 hour collection and everything was within normal range. Do you know what level of protein was present?

No,its been sent off. He's had a cough n cold and is teething very badly. I think the sample was a bad one, just a trickle after a 3 hr nap (bf though!) he'd charged about like a mad thing all morning too so possibly a bit dehydrated. Thanks

A trace of protein is usually present if they're generally unwell- don't worry
