Should I be worried about 3 week old DS?

DS has had a very unsettled night. He started off late last evening with a few spit ups and vomits, then breast fed normally all night long but seemed to be in discomfort passing wind and stools. He had plenty of wet, yellow poo nappies but kept grunting and tossing all night long. Now he's vomited once more. No fever, doesn't seem dehydrated, seems bright and is keen to bf all the time.

Normally I wouldn't worry but he is only 3weeks old - am I being too laid back about this?

Anyone? He is still vomiting through out the day.

Do you have a lot of dairy products in your diet? sounds similar to DS who had reflux and a dairy protein intolerance

I am not sure if it's a lot, a yogurt for breakfast and a bar of milk chocolate a day - is that a lot? Is there a test for dairy protein allergies or do you just exclude them from your own diet and see what happens with the baby?

When he throws up, is he unhappy? Is it a full feed, or just a few tablespoons?

Oh, also is it projectile?

Some is normal spit, some is more substantial vomit not exactly projectile across the room but across him body, onto sofa, onto me. He's maybe done 7 substantial vomits since this morning, all after eating, I don't know if it's the entire feed it's very difficult to know with bf.

I'd be tempted to call nhs direct as he's so young and they can get dehydrated quite easily at that age. They might be able to give you some advice. Hope he feels better soon x

I would take him in to the gp or walk in. Just to make sure. When my DD was vomiting a lot it turned out she had a water infection and needed antibiotics. They never mind seeing small babies.

We're in France and our regular pediatrician is on holiday this week. Will try to get hold of another doctor on Monday.

That sounds a bit worrisome. Is there any sort of out-of-hours provision? He is very small and that's quite a bit of vomiting. I don't think I'd like to wait until Monday.

He was a lot better overnight. Fed lying down till 5am so we both got some sleep, then started the grunting and fusing with passing gas but no vomiting.

Out of hours provision here is A&E which has no cues you get seen immediately but they are very OTT with procedures, e.g. to get seen by a paeds you have to get admitted to paediatrics which requires standard blood tests and a line (been through that horror before with DD!).

Sounds like ds1, (10yrs ago), who it turned out had gastric reflux and needed baby gaviscon before every bf to keep it down. Not sure if that's very helpful though

I managed to speak with a doctor yesterday who thinks it was probably reflux and I can follow it up with our regular doctor. He hasn't vomited in 24 hours so it all seems to have calmed down for now.
