Ear seaweed?!

DS (9) is severely autistic and has very little language. As a toddler, he had 5 sets of grommets and his ears would constantly leak gross-smelling fluid. He grew out of this by the age of 5-6.

Yesterday his school bus bought him home and his escort said that he had been crying on the bus about his ear. In his contact book, his TA had written that another child (he goes to a special needs school) had screamed in his ear and his ear had popped.

This morning I heard him run to the bathroom to 'wipe' his ear. When I asked him why he needed to wipe his ear, he told me that lots of 'seaweed' came out and that his ear is very sore.

Any ideas? Do I need to make him an appointment at the GP?

Could be wax or fluid if his eardrum popped. Maybe a quick trip to the walk on centre to see if they can check it out.
