Help I think pharmacist has given my dc the wrong medicine

Dd started taking amoxocillin on Saturday for chest infection. Just noticed the label printed by pharmacy and label on bottle not the same. Waiting for them to call me back but in terrible panic. Bottle is 250ml/5mg but printed label is 125ml/5mg. Anyone know if 250ml/5mg ( 3 x 5ml spoonfuls daily) will have harmed her if she has been given the wrong strength amoxocillin.

Go back to the chemist with the meds.

How old is she and what does she weigh?

Tipsykisses · 25/09/2014 15:02

Have they rung you back ?

Could the 125ml & 250ml be the amount of liquid in the bottle rather than the dose ?

Hope your dd is ok & they ring back soon !

winnybella · 25/09/2014 15:05

It's just the bottle size that's different. Strength is the same. No need to panic.

Stillwishihadabs · 25/09/2014 15:08

I think you mean 250mg in 5mls, the only side effect of antibiotic overdose is diarrhoea . You can prescribe double doses in severe infections, how old is dd ?

cheeseandjam · 25/09/2014 15:26

Sorry yes 250mg in 5ml. She is nearly 5 and weighs 20kg.

That's fine. 250mg three times a day would be an appropriate dose, I have no idea if this what your GP wanted to prescribe or 125mg three times which would also be ok. Hope this helps.

Tipsykisses · 25/09/2014 17:09

How is your Dd cheeseandjam?

cheeseandjam · 25/09/2014 17:34

Thanks all it appears that the pharmacists printed the wrong label as they called me back after digging out the original prescription. Feeling a bit silly now as I was in such panic crying in the phone ....

Good on you for spotting it! I wouldv'e done exactly the same thing.

Stillwishihadabs · 25/09/2014 18:06

Don't be silly of corse you were rightly worried. I hope they are looking in to it.

cheeseandjam · 25/09/2014 18:13

Yes apparently there will be an investigation and they will call me next week. X
