Newborn with reflux

Hello all,
I know it is common for newborns to have reflux but I wondered if anyone had a useful tips to help ease the symptoms?
My son is 23 days old, we are keeping him upright when feeding, have raised his cot and have been given infant gaviscon from GP.
He is bottle fed with expressed milk and formula but we are switching to formula full time shortly.
Any ideas to help him or us stay sane would be appreciated. Thanks.

You will get some good advice here so good luck.

May I just pop on to say - have you (personally) checked you son for tongue and lip tie? You can find out how online. Reflux is very very common with ties and it is a reasonably simple, non-chemical fix that can make all the difference. Many GPs and HVs don't think to check and don't know how, but ties are very common and revising them can help with latch/feeding and not gulping air, all of which can positively affect reflux.

Do try all the other options too but please do read up on lip and tongue ties. And good luck!

Thank you for replying. He did have a tongue tie, yes. It was done on Tuesday. I didn't know about the link between the two but I think his reflux has been building for a while. He is my first baby so its all a bit new still.
Thanks again. Smile Smile

Mine was like this, it's hard isn't it? On a practical level, keep millions of muslins and always have a spare top! We never figured it out properly but being upright helped so we used the sling a lot - do you have a comfy one?

MrsWones · 19/09/2014 18:23

Hi mynameis. We don't have a sling yet. We were waiting a bit first but may buy one now!! It is hard, I
think more for us. Just want to take it all away for him and feel it instead of him. I get the feeling this won't be the last time we feel like this. Confused Confused

Nothing to add to this but watching as dd (4 wo) seems to have reflux and having had her throw up a huge amount of milk over me just now, I need ideas!
She's only on infacol at the moment as it's not all the time, mainly this sort of time in the evening.

MrsWones · 19/09/2014 19:35

Hi startwig. It seems to be mostly evening for us to and seems to prevent ds from sleeping in the day much. At the moment he is at a 30 degree angle asleep in his moses basket, finally. We have infant gaviscon from GP which I think has helped. A friend was given losec by her GP and suggested baby massage but at the moment ds is too young for the classes. Hope your dd is feeling better. Smile Smile

MrsWones great that the TT has gone - is there a lip tie though?

MrsWones · 19/09/2014 20:39

What is a lip tie? How would I know?
