4 week old baby - snotty nose

Hi all
Stupid first time mum alert...
My 4 week old son has a snotty/blocked sounding nose. I bought some calpol nasal spray which seems to be loosening things up and then I'm able to remove the snot. But he still sounds mucusy. It's only really been like this today.
He's my pfb, do I take him to the doctors or do I see how he goes with the spray?
I'm not sure what sort of things a newborn should go to the doctors for and what they can recover from theirselves.
Or any tips to help?
Thank you

My DS had a snotty nose all the time when he was a baby, poor wee thing. They cope with it remarkably well so I would only, personally, go to the doctors if he was running a temperature.

The nasal spray is good and being in sling can help plus when there in their crib, I used to roll up a towel and put it under the head of the mattress so they slept on a slight slope.

You sound line you're doing just fine!

Thanks for replying!
I checked his temp a little while ago and it was ok.
I just feel bad for him, it must be annoying. I wanna blow his nose!
Thanks for the tips also. Will try them out.

Sounds like a cold so I would wait and see how you get on. Check for a temperature but as long as feeding ok and doing wet nappies should be no issue Grin

I'm a crap mum, when my newborns had colds I just let nature take it's course.

Didn't even think twice about nasal sprays or Shock sucking the snot out (I still cannot believe people do that!!)

No advice but I'm not sure what the doctor would be able to do for a cold? Hope your DS is feeling better soon OP.

I used to use some special plug-in menthol vaporiser thing you can get from the chemist for babies. And also Snuffle Babe, which is like Vicks for babies, in a tiny white pot - again from the chemist (or the supermarket). These things seemed to help her sleep.

I'm sure your baby is fine, congestion is very common among babies I believe, but if you are worried you could always get a dress appointment tomorrow, to put your mind at ease. Good luck.

Dr's appointment more use than a dress one, I would think. Sorry - autocorrect.
