Sprained ankle (ds9) - should I get it checked

DS went over on his ankle on a trampoline on Weds. His ankle was extremely swollen that evening. It's still pretty swollen now and sore. He is limping around on it like Richard III (Wink)so I'm presuming it's nothing more serious than a mild sprain, I'm just a bit surprised it is still so swollen. Can't take a decent pic of his feet together so have done each one for comparison. Sprained one is his left one.
I've put a tubie grip thingy on it for school and he's had ice on in the evening and morning. Is that about it for treatment? (He's not going out at playtime at school and is trying to put it up when he can).

I "sprained" my ankle at a similar age. When my parents took me to get it checked a few days later it was infact broken. Get it checked.

Wouldn't hurt to get it checked.

Needs an x-ray.

Yes, definitely, please don't let your DC suffer any longer. A & E at the double!

OH! I wasn't expecting those responses! Would he be able to walk on it if it was broken? He can circle it and move it up and down (although it is sore).

You can walk on some fractures - the smaller bone in your lower leg only carries a small proportion of your weight so you can often walk on it even if it's fractured. check out the Ottowa Ankle Rules to see if he'll automatically score an X-ray, but definitely worth getting it checked out as even if he hasn't fractured something he may need some careful attention to help it heal properly.

He's been x-rayed (after he came back from school with a new lump on his foot!) - apparently he's just stretched the ligaments Confused, no fracture, PHEW!
