Dermoid cyst

My 8 month old DD has a dermoid cyst on her left eyebrow. We've visited the paediatrician and she will be having an operation to have it removed in January, as it is likely to just get bigger.
The lump is about the size of a pea and has (before now) not affected her eye at all. However, it seems to have moved and is now causing her left lid to droop/half close. Has anyone had any experience? The thought of an operation is already keeping me awake at night along with the inevitable scar. I am now worried she will also have a permanent droopy, lopsided eyelid.
Please share any experiences you may have had!

We had exactly the same - our op was left a bit later (about 1yo) as wasn't causing any problems. To be honest, it all went very smoothly. Obvs traumatic watching your lo go under, but they cope so well. The nil by mouth was the worst bit. Two years on, he has a minor scar by eye but no other problems. It only looked like a pea size to the front but apparently was a golf ball size and growing inwards so we definitely did the right thing. Good luck, all will be fine!

Sorry just reread, sounds like yours will be at around the same age. Definitely give the hospital a call if you have new issues though, they might want to move you up the list. We had a couple of apptments with the eye docs after which was very reassuring.

My DS had this. We opted to leave surgery until he was 3. The operation is very minor. I won't say don't worry because i know you will! I didn't sleep at all in the few days leading up to it! But it is minor - we left hospital less than an hour after. surgery. Six yea un noticeable unless you

Sorry phone playing up! Scar is barely visible - just a faint line on the skin.

My DD had one of these above her right eyebrow. She had it removed when she was 18minths. The scar is in her eyebrow so it is unnoticeable now (aged 6).

The cyst didn't make her eyelid droop. If you are worried get in touch with the consultant and I am sure they will move the op if they think it is going to cause a problem.
