Pubic hair in babies

pixiestixie84 · 19/08/2014 20:32

Hi all,
My 6 month old daughter has very fine, light coloured hair on her pubic bone and I was wondering if this is normal? It doesn't look like pubic hair, but is noticeable compared to the rest of her skin iyswim. I've just stopped breast feeding her and I was wondering if this might have had an effect.
Thanks!

Of all the things to wonder/worry about??!?!?!

one of my DSes had this from birth. He also has a furry down on his shoulders and when the midwife looked in his ears she said he had hairy inner ears which meant he would be a very hairy chap when older.

And she was right - he is turning out to be pretty hairy now he has hit puberty. he is ready to shave much sooner than my other two boys were.

had furry down on his shoulders, not has.

Redtiger- why the rude response? The OP is asking a perfectly valid question, in case pubic hair might indicate a hormonal problem etc, which can sometimes be the case. No need to be rude just because you're ignorant!

Thanks for the replies- once you get an idea in your head it is hard to shake off... Would be interested to know any others' experience of this.

If you're worried, get your GP or HV to take a quick peek. And to redtiger: don't be so aggressive. This is probably normal. But occasionally babies this young do start developing fine downy pubic hair, as the first sign of a hormonal problem that needs sorting out, the more promptly the better. So how dare you criticise the OP for being attentive to a possible health problem in her baby?

My DD does too, similar to the very fine hair my DS's have on their legs. She's always had it (now 3.5).I just assumed its normal as she's been seen a few times by the paed consultant for her hips - so seen without a nappy on and I assumed he would have said something if it wasn't normal.
