18mo runny poo for 5 weeks

Sorry, might be a bit too early tone discussing poo but I'm already on my 2nd nappy change of the day

Dd is 18mo, and for 5 weeks she has had the runs, sometimes watery but mostly just runny, and looks like it had mucus in it vom

She hasn't had a cold, but she is teething, her little bottom has been so sore

I'm probably changing 4/6 nappies a day

Is it normal for it to last this long? I've just been putting it down to teething but getting a bit worried now as it's been about 5 weeks, actually could even be longer than that

Does it have any lumps of undigested food?

I would probably pop her along to the GP I think. Teething in itself shoukd not cause these symptoms, but it does lower the immune system, which is why it is often associated with runny noses and the like.

Make sure she is drinking lots of water and if she's fine in herself, it's probably nothing to worry about but no harm in getting things checked out.

No lumps at all, it's been all different colours too

My son had this. At it's worst it was 6 or 7 times a day . Our GP referred us to the paediatrician who said it was probably toddler diarrhoea and it would improve. I was very sceptical but he was right and It really improved over the next few months. I would ask your GP for a paediatric referral just to be sure.

I should so add that she is eating and drinking normally, and is ok in herself, that's why I've not took her to the doctors yet as otherwise she is ok

It's the mucus that makes me think she needs a doctor.

Have you changed her diet at all? Could there be a slight food intolerance? I find a banana helps when DS has the runs.

Use a barrier cream for her sore bottom, poor thing, I hope she's on the mend soon.

DS has this. Had it since 18 months, he's now 8.

First they called it 'toddler diarrhoea' and said it's because toddlers put things in their mouths.

Then it was constipation, he had some poo softening stuff that just made things worse, because he isn't constipated.

Now it's just called chronic diarrhoea

Holfin yup some days it's as much as 6/7, today might be one of those days as she had done 2 before 7am

Luckily though with layers of sudocrem her bottom isn't too bad, it's very red but the skin isn't breaking

Yes it was the mucus that's concerning me too, she doesn't have a cold or even a runny nose so I wasn't sure why that was happening

Ok il try and get a GP appt today

My dc had toddler diarrhoea

But his was always full of in digested food

We controlled it by changing his diet

Oh I'd recommend metanium for the rash it causes! It's like magic cream.

Back from the doctors, they couldn't care less to be honest, said to give her a few more weeks and if she's still got the runs they will send off a sample
