over feeding 25day old

Hi, on Thursday I had taking my little boy to hospital as he was struggling to breath (not the usual period breathing) we stayed in over night and had him monitored, when the doctors where asking me what he ate I replied around 30oz a day expressed breast milk, the doctor told me this was to much and his breathing was caused by me over feeding him, while at the hospital baby fed 4oz every 4hrs like advised, his breathing was fine and sent of home, during the hospital time baby was ok with the 4oz 4hrs now three days later he's crying in hunger every two hrs after feeding what upsets me as I don't want to over feed amd bring these problems back but I don't want a very upset little baby, any advice would be very grateful. Thank you.

Any chance he will feed from the boob rather than the bottle? I don't think you can over feed a bf baby

How was the 30oz split up?

At 25days old dd was having feeds every 2-3 hours probably of 2-3oz ebm/formula. The four hour thing isn't right for such a young baby if they are showing signs of hunger.

book an appt with your hv. 30 oz doesn't seem too much at all . my ds was ff and in the early weeks would take 4 oz every 3 hours = 32oz.

The advice for babies is to feed on demand, so it sounds like the Dr is using very outdated advice. I don't see how 'over feeding' would cause your baby to do anything other than be sick (not have breathing difficulties)

Is there any reason you're expressing and bottle feeding rather than direct feeding? I'm guessing your LO won't latch on properly or something so well done for keeping on, it must me lots of extra work compared to feeding straight from the boob or FF!

Morning from 7-10 it'd be 7oz in amd out of sleep, then between 10-1 another 7oz, then 1-5 8oz then nothing till 8 then last feed wpuld be 9 that'd be 4oz then 5oz around 1 then be asleep till 7am.
I can't latch him I've tried and tried but nothing he just gets stressed and upset that he can't feel nipple in his mouth to latch onto, I've tried expressing before I latch to pull the nipple out but still no luck.
It is harder so much effort constantly expressing and washing but it's best for him.
If I do say 4oz every 3hrs I was hoping the extra oz in that feed wouldn't cause him no harm but needed advice before doing it.

Just feed him when he wants to. I would ignore this over feeding business and get a second opinion. Feeding every 4 hours is too infrequent for a little baby. My two never did that, even when they were older.

I would say smaller bottles, more frequently. 7-8oz is a lot for a very little baby. If you have the ebm to hand then try 3oz at a time and if he finishes it then add an oz. But feed on demand/or at least approx every three hours and see how you get on. Then as he gets older increase the size of thr bottles bit by bit and feeds will space out.

4 hours is definitely too long for a newborn, I would never advise anyone to do that (I work on a children's ward).

7oz in one go sounds a lot for a four week old. What's his weight? As that's how we work it out in hospital.

At that age my DS was feeding 2-3 hourly, on demand really. You could try 4oz 3 hourly maybe, that's still the same amount just more frequently.

He was 7.6 born and now 10.8, it was the nurse on the childrens ward that said she worked it out to be 4oz 4hrs. I gave in today and just giving him what he wants but within reason.

Is he refluxy at all? He's heading towards another growth spurt too. I would do smaller amounts and adding an extra oz if he needs it.
