Help... Baby, no poo 8 days

Hi my lo is 18 weeks and has always only pood twice a week or so ,,,,, lately that has reduced to once a week . Formula fed from 6 weeks .

Doctor gave me senna told me not to worry . He's now had 3 doses of senna and some lactulose but no pop ?

He does seen to be trying and doesn't seem too uncomfortable ? The other day I tried him with a spoonful of porridge and he was in pain and crying for an hour . I don't know if that's coincedence. But no more weaning until poo sorted out !

Any help experience appreciated

Dd was like this a lot. All the drs and nurses weren't too fussed. They showed me hiw to massage her tummy to move and poo stuck in her bowel. They also gave her suppositories when it went on too long (sorry, I cant remember how long it was). She was younger than your LO too.

Have you tried massage? You can also gently push his legs up to his chest (when he is on his back) as this simulates straining. There are other things you could try. Have you googled?

18 weeks seems a bit early for weaning.
I would just give him some cooled boiled water.
Also when DS, has constipation, I have put a child's glycerine suppositoty in his bottom. The oldest bit of poo near his bottom is probably too hard for him to get out easily, so it will lubricate it. Works in less that an hour, sometimes 10 minutes.

information about suppositories I am in france so can buy them over the counter at pharmacy. I am looking to see where you can buy them in the uk. otherwise ask your doctor to prescribe some.

There are some available on amazon I would order them anyway today, even if you are going back to the doctor. I keep them in stock as DP (who is now 3) still gets occasionally constipated due to change of water etc.)

Just while you are waiting, perhaps try a bit of baby oil just massaged around his anus and a tiny bit sort of squirted in to try and help ease out a poo.

a bit of patrollium jelly on the end of a cotton bud stick. insert slightly to lubricate baby bottom . This would work for my ds, or warm water with a wet wipe and keep wiping bottom to stimulate. beware tho .. you will get a hard poo come out and then the rest will likely flood out !

Have you tried cycling his legs? That works quite well for little babies. Also, try cycling his legs while in a warm bath. Warning: he may poo in the bath though, so be prepared!

My DS struggled to poo when switched to formula. I went on mumsnet and someone said about reflexology. I googled it and watched a video on you tube showing what to do. I did it to my DS and within an hour he poo'd. Every time he got bunged up I did it and it worked, don't know if coincidence or not but try it it's worth a shot x
