Worrying about Ds.

2yo Ds has chicken pox including in his mouth so he's really struggling to eat and drink. I'm not too worried about food but I'm really concerned about dehydration. He's only had about half a cup of milk today. I've tried water, milk, juice and smoothies so far in a variety of cups and beakers but he just cries advertises them.

How can I get some fluids into him, its not sunny but very warm so he really needs to drink.

Ice lolly? It's tough but as long as he has constant access to drinks he will be okay.

Ow, that sounds sore!

The first question is whether you are seriously worried about his hydration - think about his alertness, how much he is peeing, how soggy his nappies are etc....it's not uncommon for littlies like this to end up on a drip in hospital for 24hrs or so, if they are getting very hydrated, so if you are concerned, let his G.P. see him today (and don't take "no" for an answer!)

if you are just looking for some tips, then milk and water sting a lot less that juice or smoothies if his mouth is sore. What about mini-milk lollies, or making a game of it and getting some ten drinking straws out to make it an entertaining pastime rather than a chore to drink?

Ice lollies and mini milks great ideas thanks. Not worried enough for GP at the moment and really don't want to get to that stage. A smoothie is usually a big treat so I was try to kill 3 birds with one stove there - drink, food and cheering up!

Had 3 wet nappies today but he's constipated so will be keeping a close eye. He's a bit drowsy but on s tired 'been up since 4' way rated than anything to worry about.
Thanks for the advice.
