Anyone have a very short child?

My 30 month old recently had her 2.5 year check and was measured at 82cm - although the hv measured her pony tail [without that she is 80cm!). This puts her below the 0.4th centile . At birth she was 50th centile. She is normal weight (25th centile) and her head is 50th centile).

We are going back to get her re measured in 3 months but there seems to be some concern over her height?

I am 5 foot 3 her dad is 6 foot. We have 4 older children who were all between 25th and 75th centile for height at their two year checks!

Does anyone have a toddler who has stopped growing like this?

At my DS's check at 2.3 he was 81cm! I think boys are supposed to be taller too? They weren't concerned. I'm 5'2" and dad is 5'10". He's still in 12-18 month trousers at 2.5 and will be for some time!

Bit different but my friends daughter was apparently 9th centile at her 2.5 year check (v tall parents so )

She's now 5 and looks about the same as dd who is 75th. They grow at different rates but I also think it's pretty hit and miss measuring 2 year olds.

That's quite a drop from 50th centile to below the 0.4th centile, even allowing for inaccuracies in measuring. If the measurement in 3 months backs up this initial one, I'd push for a referral, and preferably to a paediatric endocrinologist, rather than GP.

Yes, my ds2was around 92cm at 2 yr check and now around 100cm at nearly 5yrs. He's Aug birthday so one of the very shortest in school year and on 2nd centile for height. I'm 5,2 and dh 5,7 so it's expected. DS1 who's 10 is on the 25th centile so he's the lucky brother in the height dept.

how has she been on charts since say six months old?

has her rate of growth fallen off?

does she grow out of her clothes?
my dd was that height at that age and still the same height 12 months later! she stopped growing - she was referred to growth clinic and diagnosed with coeliac disease eventually...began growing again once on gf diet. she is now 14 and five foot .

if she clearly isn't growing out of her clothes and hasn't grown 1 cm over next three months get her referred to growth clinic. they will measure properly and monitor for first six months anyway to see rate of growth. if any family history of coeliac then run coeliac blood test screen.

nothing to worry about... growth comes in spurts...

children have growth spurts but they still tend to grow steadily 6 cm per year at that age. so over three months you expect 1.5 cm.

if growth really has stopped (my dds growth literally stopped, grew in mm not cm) then she needs checking.

My DD hardly grew at all between 2.5 and 3, before that she was always around 50th centile.

She's shot up again over the last couple of months and is now back on the 50th centile at 3.5.

When I measured ds1 at 2.2 he was 81cm, he was tiny. Now he's 6 and he's had a huge growth spurt, is about 118cm and about average. Dd was also a little dot but she is now 4, 98cm and about middling in her class. They both seem to have caught up. Baby ds2 is long and slender so seems to be a different shape to the other two although they are different from each other as well.
