Flucloxacillin

This is meant to be given on an empty stomach 1 hr before food or two hours after. Will it reduce its actions by a lot if sometimes it is taken an a not completely empty stomach ?

Dd2 has a very nasty infection in a cannula site and although we can try to give it on an empty stomach sometimes she needs to eat when we don't expect it so I can't guarantee it will always be on an empty stomach as she has diabetes.
The pharmacist said I should definitely give it on an empty stomach so I'm worried it may not work as well in dd and am wondering if I should ask for an anti b that can be given anytime.

Stick with it and just do your best. That antibiotic will have been chosen for a good reason and unless you are worried about the infection getting worse then it is doing it's job. Your local pharmacist would be a good place to ask if you want more information about the meds though.

Flucloxacillin cannot enter the bloodstream very well if there is food in the stomach to be digested. It is therefore very important to stick to the instructions as otherwise flucloxacillin won't be as effective as it should be.

Oops. We gave a course to DD recently. Always on an empty stomach but I didn't read the bit about an hour before food so she would eat soon after. The infection went though. I would try to follow the instructions as much as you can but if she wants too soon the odd time I wouldn't worry. We had to stuff sweets down her straight away to get rid of the taste anyway or she wouldn't take it (and I can't honestly blame her - I tasted the stuff).

I will have to see how we go then, so far we have got up early and luckily her bg has been high enough that we can give the anti b then wait for breakfast. Rest of day been a disaster as she's always had something to eat or has the medicine then needs hypo treatment. It was a nasty infection so I want it to go. I will keep a close eye on her.
