Any hints/tips to prevent scarring (DDs forehead deep cut)

DD split her head open down to the bone about a week and a half ago.

Just taken the butterfly stitches off, it's come back together quite nicely but looks like it still might scar (not important in the grand scheme I know). I'm sure DD would like me to try and do my best for her so any ideas on minimizing scarring?

My Ds cut his eyebrow open when he was 2.5 and had to have steri strips. I didn't do anything particular with it. He is 12 now and it is really only visible in the summer when he gets a tan - it shows as a silvery-white line. It wasn't as large as your poor DDs, but I think when they are little they do heal pretty well. Just try and get her to leave it alone - picking/knocking the scabs off etc won't help

I've always heard that E45 is good for scars, even Vaseline to stop it drying out too much.

I have major scarring on my left leg. A nurse suggested buying vitamin E capsules, breaking them open and rubbing onto the scar. It worked really well!

Bio oil is good.

Silicone gels/patches are, as far as I know, the only thing shown to improve scarring in clinical studies.

I had a cyst removed from my forehead last year. I was very worried about scarring. I used Kelocote gel twice daily for the first 9 months or so, as soon as the wound was no longer open. You need the scar to be covered 24 hours a day. After a year, the scar is barely visible (just a faint white line and a slight indentation).

I would go back to your GP and ask for a referral. scars on the face are taken seriously and you have a window of opportunity over the next few months as this scar heals.

The plastic surgeon in the hospital looked at it before he was glued and said it would probably scar, will look at vit e cream. What might the GP be able to do?

I think the depth of the cut is very important, deeper wounds are certain to scar.

Our story.

In our case it happened abroad on holiday in August 2013 so we were limited to an out of hours emergency medical centre - the stitching could definitely have been neater.

Pics are after 7 weeks, and then 18 months.

I'm the early weeks we used silicone sheets, and also Mederma scar cream. Sheets I think worked well, I didn't notice any effect of the cream.

The end result is a smooth flat surface that you couldn't tell was scarred by touch alone. But the scar has ended up hypo pigmented (white) and the stitch holes are also quite noticeable too.

It has faded, and I am sure will do more over time. We continue to use bio oil, and have tried other things like fresh ginger, but nothing seems to make much difference at this stage.

I am always searching for info on how to help improve this look, the forehead is such a prominent place on the face for a girl especially id love to find a way to fade this even more if possible.

a very old thread I know but I'm driving myself cray about my daughters forehead scar which looks remarkably identical to the one your daughter had years ago and I'd really benefit from a bit of reassurance to know that it's healed well? My daughter is 18mo and 3 weeks ago fell onto the sharpest concrete edge imaginable and I'm wondering what the time frame for healing looks like!

Me too 18- My little ds cut his head open about 6 weeks ago it looks awful. I was looking through old thread for scarring reduction advice and saw your post about your little one op looks similar to my ds could I ask you about recovery time did it take a long time to fade, did you need to use any treatment?

How did it heal after all this time?

Once dully healed up. Massages daily with Vitamin E / Argan oil.

To prevent a bumpy scar you want to massage it.

I worked at a Burns and Scar specialist Hospital they formulated their own creams for their patients. It Is Salisbury NHS - My Trusty. They now sell to the public.
