Toddlers and amoxycillin

Couple of infections ds has had recently and each time his course of amoxycillin has been two or three doses short of a week's worth. This happened to anyone else? Wondering if it's right as I thought a whole week was usual.

It depends on the infection, but often 5-7 days is enough (or even 3 days for some things, eg simple ear or urinary tract infections) and the amount you get is based on the standard pack size rather than a definite need for a whole week. If your child is old enough for capsules/tablets, most of them come in week packs and you'll be advised to give the whole course. If it's liquid, it's not usually worth supplying a whole extra bottle of antibiotic mixture, just for a dose or two. Normally most of the bacteria will be killed off in the first couple of days and the extra is to make sure that we're not encouraging resistant bugs to grow. If you feel your child isn't fully better, you should go back to the Dr, otherwise nothing to worry about.

Thanks, that's reassuring. Yes it's the liquid banana flavoured stuff. He loves it
