Scarlet fever help please.

There have been 3 cases of scarlet fever at the DCs school. 2 of those cases in DS2's class. He's woken up with a sore throat and a bit of a runny nose. He seems fine in himself.

I'm wondering whether to get him in with the doctors this morning. I don't want him to miss school but it's more important to stop anyone else catching it.

He's not displaying any of the other symptoms.

Should I get him checked over just in case?

Phone the doctor first and see if they want you to come in or want to leave it 48 hours then come out to you because it can be a bit more dangerous to other groups of people that may be in the same waiting room as you. maybe keep him off just incase as he has been in contact with confirmed cases but I would say when you call the doctor you suspect scarlet fever and why. I had to go stay with my auntie when I had it as a child because my grandmother had a weakened immune system.

I have to take him in at 0930. I hope it's something else. He hates missing school.

He may well only have a virus or the sore throat caused by same bacteria. SF itself is not transmissable but a reaction to a having the bacteria in the system, normally having had the sore throat on a previous occasion. So he won't necessarily develop SF. Hopefully they will take a swab to check.

No swab. He has swollen glands and his throat looked red. So the doctor thinks it is likely it will be scarlet fever. But until he develops the rash and strawberry tongue they won't know. So I have to keep him off school.

I need to take him back for antibiotics if he develops a rash.
