Strange symptoms...

Not quite sure whats going on but something isn't quite right with DS2.

He is normally very loud and constantly on the go. He is never still and never quiet but over the last week has been sitting on my lap and not wanting to do anything. Everyone has commented on how quiet he is.

He is 3.5 btw. Last week he had a couple of random high temps for no apparent reason...I thought it was Chicken Pox as its going around but nothing has come of it.

He has very enlarged glands in his neck...like grape shapes on either side. They have been there ever since he was about 6 months old. He sees a consultant at hospital anyway and have mentioned them to him several times and he said they are nothing to worry about and its common for children to have them.

I don't even really know what Im worried about its just he isn't right at all. He hasn't got a cold, sore throat, sick or upset tummy. He is just very quiet and subdued. Its not a in a mood subdued if that makes sense...more like he has no energy to do anything.

He eats really well and always has done. He has a random heart defect but its to do with the position of the artery rather than the heart itself and his heart is completely fine.

Any suggestions? I don't quite know what to say to doctors if I did take him. we have another hospital appointment at the end of the month so will mention it then but don't quite know what to do in the meantime.

I have 2 children with heart conditions and I think if one of mine was displaying the same symptoms as your son I would get a doctor's appointment ASAP .

If you don't mind me asking, what defect has he got? Is it one that could get worse?

ihearttc · 06/06/2014 13:26

No I don't mind at all. He's got something called an ARSA (Aberrent Right Subclavian Artery). One of the arteries coming off his heart has come off the Aortic Arch in the wrong place if that makes sense and is going behind his oesophagus/trachea and pushing them. Its similar to a Vascular Ring but the artery doesn't actually join to form a ring.

Everything about his heart itself is completely fine..we've been seen at Great Ormond Street to make sure. Its almost like a variation of normal-any one of us could have the same thing and be completely unaware of it but his presses a bit too much on his trachea. We don't even have to see Cardiology anymore as they can't treat it as such we just need to manage the symptoms which are mainly ENT related. He sounds like he has something in his throat permanently bless him!

We are seeing his ENT consultant at the end of the month so will speak to them.

If you think something is not right and it doesn't imrove in the next week or so then I would definitely pop him along to the GP. It would be completely legit.
