Mumps after having both doses of MMR?

My son has been under the weather for a few days, hot, complaining of joint ache and just teary and not himself. Today one side of his face started swelling- his cheek+ by his ear and down to his neck- says it is very sore, and now he is complaining that the other cheek feels puffy. He says he doesn't have any toothache. is complaining that it is hard to swallow. I am waiting for a doctor to call back but my OH thinks it may well be mumps- I know there is a tiny chance of getting it post MMR and was just wondering if anyone had experience of this?

DS2 had mumps in December, as did another boy in his class. Apparently it is not that uncommon to have mumps having had the MMR, which they both had.

Dh had mumps twice after the MMR.It's not that great a protection, tbh.
