Small flat red spots on 14 yr old, ? Incect bites

Hi
My 14 yr old came in from playing football in the park tonight and has some small flat round spots on the tops of his hands, a few on his arms and lower legs and a couple around his hairline. They are about 3 or 4 mm in diameter and he said there were lots of 'things' flying around. Could they be bites as I thought bites would be raised?
Thanks

Is he still awake? Can you just double check that when you press them the skin around them goes white?

Hi PJ they could well be. DH went down to the football field on Thursday evening to pick DS2 up and he has loads of itchy bites on his arms and they are quite flat. He said the same that there were insects flying about.

Thanks. Checkpoint, I did check before he went to bed and they did go white thankfully as I had a minor panic.
Sparkling, did they go away by the next day or are they still there. They don't seem to be itchy which is strange although I gave him a piriton when he came in just incase.

The midges are out in force.

My dd's are covered in bites after an evening outdoors, and are on piriton to stop them scratching.
