Ds2 has had an awful time since starting reception last year.
D and v
Tonsillitis
Chest infections
He has missed a lot of school over he last 2 months too...in a 4 week period he had;
Conjunctivitis
Ear infection
Tonsilitis
Cough/cold
:(
He has been back at school for a week and yesterday and since last night has had temps of nearly 40 degrees :(
Taking him to dr, but what do I do if the Ewo gets in touch?
I usually take him to the gp if he is ill enough to be off school so I have records of each illness.
Am so sick of it.
He has had bloods done and his white cell count is "ok"
Also his kidney function.
They couldn't do the other tests because they didn't get enough blood.
Don't know what I am asking really, other than, why is my child always ill? :(

Reception is a breeding ground and with new rules regarding absence everyone sends their kids in anyway fir fear of what schools may say.

I'd try him on a multi vitamin and several as much fruit and veg into him as you can. Soups, smoothies, tomato sauces etc

Butternut squash soup with chilli and ginger is my go to rescue remedy.

Maybe it makes a difference or maybe not but it can't hurt.

Put blue berries in everything too.

Nut butters too are good for fat and cLories when he's not eating much.

Manuka honey

I would ask for another blood test so they can check iron levels etc too

He eats loads of fruit and veg
No meat though - he seems to be a natural vegetarian.
He is on iron liquid as he was anaemic last summer.
I am at he end of my tether with it all.
None of the other kids are as ill as ds :(

Indians...the schools don't give a toss about my son, all they care about is their attendance levels.
I know how bad his attendance has been.
I just don't know what I can do about it.

is this his first time in a bug breeding school setting?
if yes it sounds abolutely normal unfortunately.
but I agree, you now your child best and if worried go to gp.
don't worry about the ewo, your child was ill and not skipping school for fun.

Gileswithachainsaw · 07/05/2014 07:45

Has he been on a lot of anti biotics?

I'm not sure that it would make a huge difference drs told me that it shouldn't but there was no denying that when dd ended up on iv antibiotics and had to take a low dose daily, for six months, that she was constantly ill.

She improved literally the day she stopped it, onwards.

Maybe try a probiotic?

Agreed it's likely just a bad run and will improve but I'd get his iron levels checked again. Just because he's on the liquid doesn't mean his body is absorbing it and if it hasn't appeared to help then there may be another underlying problem.

Definately go to gp for more bloods

He was at pre school prior to this and was similar there tbh...ended up in hospital twice last year with croup and tracheitis :(
Got an appt but with a locum...sigh.

Giles...oddly my ds1 was similar (not as bad) and his asthma paed out him on low dose AB for winters only and it made such a huge difference to him.
We see him next week.
In fact I might try and phone and beg an appt tomorrow (his clinics only run on Thursdays)
