Rash after chest infection?

Ds is almost 22 months.

He had a temp on Thurs night in the 39's so took him to drs on Fri am. We couldn't get an appt so saw the nurse practitioner. She said it was a chest infection and prescribed antibiotics. The high temps lasted til Sunday (at one point he went above 40). Now, ds always gets a fever with a cold and even when high he is still a very cheery boy but this time he didn't want to do anything, just cuddle and sleep on me. He's had chest infections before but never like this. He's also been off his food since Friday.

Even though the temp has now subsided, he's still clingy and sleepy. Then when getting dressed this morning I noticed his chest and tummy covered in a red pinprick rash. It has spread slightly to his back and down his arms and up his neck and behind his ears.

Any ideas? Sad

It could just be a viral rash, mine always seem to come out in one after a virus, but have you done the glass check just in case? Does he have any sensitivity to light or stiffness in his neck?

I'd get it looked at by a doc and point out that he's had anti-b's as in our case this pattern of events turned out to be a reaction to penicillin - ie DC was allergic to penicillin. The reaction can come during the course or some days after the course has been finished. Worth checking out though most of these things turn out to be nothing.

Thanks for your replies.

It seems to be disappearing under a glass but it's hard to tell as the spots are so small, as is the edge of the glass.

He's had the same antibiotics several times before and had no reaction. Could it still be that?

He's really perked up now and eaten a bigger meal than he has since Thursday. The rash doesn't seem to be bothering him at all.

I'll take him to the right drs at the 1st opportunity.
