OK...

DD aged 15 was hit by a car outside school last November. She was knocked out for about 20 seconds, and "bullseyed" the car windowscreen with her head.

In A&E, she was diagnosed with mild concussion, sprained leg, cuts and bruises. Very,very lucky. They did 1 xray of her leg.

Forward to last 3 months, turns out she has severly fractured a permanent tooth, but has been having some serious headaches which painkillers will not touch. So to GP, who was a bit surprised they did not xray her skull, and organised a MRI scan.

We have be recalled for a 2nd MRI, as GP says a "patch" was seen at the back of the brain. She said it could be a result of a small bleed from accident, or just "her normal brain pattern".

However, it felt like she was holding back. Kept changing subject,etc, avoiding direct questions.

Am trying so hard to stay away from Google.

Hi, just saw this and didn't want to read and run. You must be so worried but please don't google and do try to keep calm and wait and see. Friend of friend most likely had scan due to MS symptoms which doesn't apply to your DD, so don't give yourself more worries. Hope you don't have too long to wait for scan and that someone more helpful comes along soon.

Can you ask to go back and have the results explained again. Or get your dr to explain it all to you?

really it's much more likely to be related to the trauma she had, or normal for her, than anything else. your doctor can't be definitive if they need to do another scan, it's pretty normal for doctors to be circumspect in such circumstances.

don't go near google, it'll only scare the crap out of you without telling you anything about the particular circumstance of your dd.

hope the week goes quickly and you can put it, mainly, from your mind.

oh gosh, poor you. But just to say I had an MRI scan a couple of years ago for persistent headaches. The GP who saw the results kept asking me if I had ever had a stroke...I kept saying no, I hadn't and I thought I probably would remember if I had. GP kept saying "well this patch looks like stroke". I got really freaked out. Anyway, got sent to a neurologist who said yes, I had a patch on my brain but it could be anything - even something that happened in utero that I've been living with all these years. And since I have no symptoms and 45 I should just go away and forget about it. He said if you did MRI scans on ten people, two of them would have unexplained patches with no symptoms. Headaches got cured with new glasses btw

So have had very similar experience with the GP - I don't think they consider themselves qualified to opine on this so for further discussion you need to see the neurologist. Hope you get similar response.

I'm positive if there were issues she was concerned about, she would have mentioned them.
I've had quite a few hospital appointments in the last year with dd, DH and myself and every time the staff were very open. They usually said "I'm sure it's either x or y but we want to rule out Z, so we will do another test"

Not sure if I'm being helpful but that is my experience.

I'm pretty sure severe headaches aren't usually one of the first signs of MS.

I did Google, and it seems patches may also be seen in patients who experience migraines.
