Diabetes symptoms?

DS is 3 years 3 months. I'm unsure if he's just beings 3 year old or whether he has worrying symptoms. The last 2 weeks or so he has been drinking a lot, weeing quite a lot (loads today!), been very hungry, and has been super irritable when even a bit tired. However he has no weight loss as far as I can tell.
We will go to the doctor this week but just wanted to see what people thought.

Well - if it's worrying you obviously go to the GP - but could it be a growth spurt?

Is there a way to tell, other than by him being, erm, bigger when it's over?
