Conjunctivitis and Johnson's baby shampoo

18mo DD has conjunctivitis, I'm fairly certain. Haven't seen GP as only flared up on Friday (bank hols) and I don't think serious enough for OOH.

Looking for ways to ease it myself, I came across using a solution of Johnson's baby shampoo. Anyone tried this who can report?

Any other tips? So far have been doing mildly salty water. Chamomile teabags, apparently? Poor thing is very weepy and crusty.

do not use Johnson shampoo!!

Diluted baby shampoo is for blepharitis, which isn't the same thing. Just use cooled boiled water.

Eye infections should alwyas be taken seriously, especially in a baby. I would take her to the GP today and not try home remedies.

This happened to us one bank holiday and we waited until the surgery was open again. Our gp told us we could have just gone to the pharmacy and asked for something over the counter but pretended it was for dh as they won't give it for small children even though it is what the gp then prescribes.

some chemists can give you eye drops for babies on the minor ailments scheme, try a pharmacy.

deep the only reason I haven't taken her to the GP is because of the bank holidays as I say - imo it's not a good enough reason to sit in a walk in clinic for 5 hours. I will take her tomorrow when they reopen.

jayne yes I've come across those drops mentioned on old threads here, but many people say they don't help much? Since I can get to GP on infection day 5, which is how long they say to give it to clear on its own, I thought I'd do that.

Moaning as far as I can see on the crap NHS services website we don't have minor ailments round here, though I will double check with GP for future use. Sounds like a really helpful scheme

Rooty they do work. We used them only a couple of weeks ago.

Ok thanks jayne, her eyes are much clearer so will give it til tomorrow morning to go on its own. Good to know for the inevitable future bouts!
