Choking baby

4 mo DS has come home from nursery with a dreadful cough. He is exhausted but keeps waking himself up with horrible choking/vomiting noise and is getting really distressed. It is horrible to listen to and I don't know how I can help. Am here on my own and struggling not to cry :(

I'd ring 111 for advice as he is so young.

Breathing is not really laboured, and he is calmer than he was. Stupid question - on my chest facing into me or away from me?

I agree that you need some medical advice. In the meantime, try him in a steamy bathroom as croup may be a possibility

How is your baby this morning op?

He was still coughing horribly this morning, though a session in the steamy bathroom helped. Typically now I have taken the day off and told nursery he is not coming he has stopped coughing completely and now seems quite cheerful. Dr said just to keep an eye in him, and we have gone out for some fresh air.

Is it likely the nursery will be prepared to take him tomorrow? I have only just gone back to work so lots of time off is difficult.

I found some olbas oil on a tissue under the cot/near by but well out of reach helps my dd (she a cold at the moment) and my hv suggested a pillow or rolled up blanket under the cot matress to provide a sloped position for sleeping this has worked for us several times

The saline nose drops were nasty weve tried them I wont use them for a runny nose it made it worse as it makes the snot come out even more and makes it harder for dd to breath and she panicked but to remove a snot blockage with a blocked nose worked

Hi op is there any way he could have a bit of food / toy stuck in his oesophegus (sorry can't think how its spelt )

My Ds had some food stuck and he kept chocking / gagging / vomiting he needed an endoscopy to get it out (it was a sausage nursery hadn't cut up small enough ) apparently they saw him choke but insist he still ate the rest of his dinner and then evening snack which im not too convinced about.

His symptoms were that he kept chocking and gagging, then went off his food pretty quickly then his water, then he started drooling and vomiting saliva (though we were already at the hospital by this point thankfully)

just thought I'd mention, hope he makes a speedy recovery

Catniss, he is still only on milk, and pretty uncoordinated, so I am pretty confident it is 'just' mucus etc. Yum. That must have been very frightening for you and your DS!

Oh yeah he's 4months isn't he for some weird reason I thought he was 8months don't know where I got that from hope he's on the mend op
