Rate of development

Hi,

I'm working in North Africa and I've been asked a question by a local girl about her baby daughter - I am not in a position to offer her any credible advice but maybe someone on here is?

Her daughter is 6 months old and cannot sit upright without assistance - is this normal? Also, she has not teethed at all - is this rate of development normal? The baby is well cared for and nourished.

Im not in anyway an expert but this is what ive been told and read through nhs stuff

A child should have teeth by the time theyre about 2.5years but the first will normally turn up around 6mths but if not dont worry (I know a girl who got her 1st tooth on 1st birthday) they come in their own time usually

Sitting up I dont know my dd could crawl by then. Does the baby have any strength in its lower body/back/legs

Not sure about sitting up, mine did it at 5 months but I think 6-7 months is about average. No teeth here until about 9 months. Early or late tooth development is hereditary I believe

Independent sitting develops between 6 and 9 months if all other milestones (such as rolling) have been achieved.. Teeth, anything up to a year old (or sometimes more).

Baby in OP sounds totally normal. Mine couldn't sit independently until 7.5-8 months. They were all early walkers (just over 9 months to just under 11 months). DS1 could stand up independently for a few weeks before he could sit independently.

(ps: DS1 was an obvious freak, still is a bit come to think of it, now a smelly teenager)
