Anybody else's child have/had a virus with fever and back pain?

DS (4) woke up last night with a fever, 38.7 according to the ear thermometer. He complained of back ache in the middle of his back, "inside, not outside - in my spine Mummy". Rang 111 and spoke to doctor who based on my answers to a number of questions, thought it viral and for me to treat the fever with calpol and ibuprofen.

Today he spiked a 40.2 degree fever. I tried to get him to drink and eat a bit for lunch (pombears!) and he threw up, which is actually the first time he's ever been sick other than posseting as a baby. He had eaten well in the morning, mind.

Nurse's advice (having called again Blush) is to continue medicating at home. Vomiting due to high temp. He hasn't complained about back ache since this morning. He's asleep now; temp is not coming down much but he isn't quite so burning hot at the moment.

He's been subdued, wanting cuddles with me all day, but he and Daddy made something with Lego before bed, so that's more reassuring.

Just after some moral support really! I always get really anxious when he is unwell.

Not the dc, but DH and I have this.

Really? That's reassuring - although, poor you! It's very odd with the back pain, isn't it? Hope you get better soon.

DS still feverish but a bit more himself, perhaps.

My DC had a mild fever & general lower back for two days - then it turned into chicken pox...

Fever and back pain would make me think kidneys. I would push the fluids as much as possible. Does he have any other symptoms?
