Hi there, my son has had a low grade fever for a couple of days with stomach pain on and off. He often has tummy pain though and is a fussy eater/quite anxious. Anyway, his pain is getting worse and he's very upset, crying. I have a doctor appointment for him at 5pm. Temp is 37.9 (has been 37.5-38.9 over past couple of days) after some calpol. It hurts him to walk and he's tender lower right side. I had appendicitis when I was 25 so I was very concerned when his pain was worse on rebound. I should take him to A&E shouldn't I? Or should I wait to see doc and if it is appendicitis, can go straight to ward, no? Am between Colchester and Chelmsford (Broomfield) and can get to both hospitals within 20 mins. Eek! wwyd?

A&E. Now. Don't wait.

I had 3 GP's tell my parents it was an upset tummy. In the end they took me to A&E and I was admitted and removed.

Fx it is nothing like that

if I was you, i'd take him to hospital. By choosing which hospital to go to.. ask your self which hospital's A&E is generally quicker in seeing children or which hospital has the least traffic right now.

Since he seems very severe for his age as it hurts to walk, he should be admitted very quickly since it could burst and cause sepsis. Hope he doesn't though.

A&E. now. I had my appendix taken out in broomfield, but that was quite a few years ago. Better to err on the side of caution.

A&e. My partner is a paramedic so just looked up the symptoms and it fits the description of appendix problems.

JokersGiggle · 10/04/2014 15:28

If the pain suddenly stops it.means the appendix has burst. If that happens call 999

How are things OP?

Did you go to colch or chelmsford? I'm also about 20 mins from each!

BlueMoonRoses · 11/04/2014 23:53

he was kept in overnight at Colchester. they were fab. I stayed next to him. he got better and was released this afternoon. no diagnosis but best of all no operation. I am now looking for a good nutritional therapist to address his food issues to at least try and make sure this doesn't happen again. poor boy.
