I will try to keep this brief!
Ds2 (5) became ill at school 2 weeks ago tomorrow (Monday)...took him to gp as within an hour of getting home his eyes were a mess. Gp dx ear infection and conjunctivitis and rx amoxyycillin and eye ointment.
By Thursday morning he was really poorly...very high temp, shaking, feeling sick etc. Took him back to gp and she changed his AB to co amoxiclav and asked to see him again on Friday to assess him.
Saw a different dr on the Friday and he dx tonsilitis and said to carry on with the co amoxiclav.
By last Monday he was still no better so took him again and dr changed his AB to penecillin.
Sent him back to school weds and thurs but by Friday he was complaining of pain and his temp was going up again.
Took him to gp and he took a throat swab and told me to watch out for quinsy.
So....(well done if you have got this far....) his tonsils are still red and swollen and have white spots on and he is now quite snotty :(
Wwyd?
No point taking him back to gp...does anyone know how long it takes for throat swabs to come back?
Should I keep him off school til he has finished his meds?
He has been on ABs for 2 weeks now :(
School aren't happy but what can I do? I feel so guilty for sending him in on weds and thurs last week as by Friday he was on the sofa all day :(
Sorry if this is rambling...I'm so tired

go back asap.
ab's work really quickly if they are the right ones and should show improvement within 48 hours.
poor thing, hope he's better soon.

if he's feeling rotten I would keep him home tbh. but 'just' snotty nose and cough is no reason to keep off school.

I'm just so fed up...trouble is dr won't rx new ABs til they get the swab results?

I'd keep him off if he is still poorly. I would guess there are only a couple of days until the end of term anyway as many schools have already broken up. If they are anything like our school the last day or two is less academic work anyway and he isn't going to miss loads. Better he is well and fresh when he goes back after Easter. I would ring the GP if you are still worried anyway and see what they say over the phone.

We have another week sadly :(
His throat still looks such a mess!
How can that be after 2 weeks of ABs?

You need the swab result to know which antibiotic will be effective. Keep on at the doc til it comes back from the lab.

I know any samples or swabs (at my surgery) take about a WK to come back. Get your GP to write a sick note for school. That should stop them moaning.

Hope your little man is better soon.
