Anyone awake? Not sure what's wrong with baby

10mo crying continuously. He started a temp yesterday, about 37.5-38 so high but not extremely high. Been crying all night, even in his sleep. Now refusing to breastfeed. No rashes on him. Doesn't really want to be hugged, keeps pushing away. Any ideas? Not really sure what to do. Thanks!

Am awake but not sure I can help much! You poor things that sounds horrible my 9 month old DS has a tummy bug and that has been stressful enough!

This is am sure a stupid question - it couldn't be teeth could it ? The not wanting to feed reminded me of my DD. Does medicine help?

If you are worried then Nhs direct may help you decide what's going on.

Have you got any calpol? I would try that and take to docs in the morning if you are still worried. Could be teeth...or fighting off a bug. Low grade fevers are quite common so I wouldn't worry too much, if no other symptoms. Poor thing.

Could be his ears..definitely give calpol or nurofen if you have them.

Sounds tough for you all. Does the rash blanch?

If it does and there are no other immediate warning signs of something serious, ring doctor for an appointment first thing.

It really could be anything, I am always loathe to put these unusual episodes down to teething as you can miss something wrong. If there is a rash it could be anything from a virus to an illness, you need to get checked. Until then, keep up any calpol / nurofen you're giving and lots of cuddles. Hope he recovers soon.

Thanks for all the replies, have been doing calpol every four hours, though he spits a lot out. He's asleep and calm now so I'm going to try taking him back upstairs to bed.

My DD had similar aged 8 months. I really struggled as we were away in a house full of people and she screamed on and off all night - nothing would settle her!! So as well as being worried about her I was worried about waking everyone up - and having to do a flight the next day...!

Anyway it seemed to develop into a cold and my theory was that she had a really sore throat, hence milk not really helping as it was probably sore to swallow and her struggling to cope with the pain. I dosed her up and she "slept" in bed with me. Luckily it only lasted in that form for about 24 hours before the blocked nose and other cold symptoms kicked in.

I would suggest ears too. Earache is dreadful anyway let alone when you are tiny. It's also made worse by lying down, hence why they can seem relatively okay at bedtime but really miserable once in bed.

Hope he picks up today.
