has anyone had a side effect from using their products on their baby.In December I read an article posted on a UK foodie blog about johnsons&johnsons products having ingredients that causes cancer.(As I was using other products already, had bought some for my newborn)so after my daughter was born in jan2014 I phoned up customer service/care line about this issue was told not to believe what's written about their company.I was sent a written statement. Went ahead using their products and now my baby had developed a rash all over her chest and spots, neckline, back.arms, legs, head and all over in patches Took her to A&E on weekend was given allergy syrup phoned up johnsons now they are gonna investigate when I send the three products I've used. Will let you know the outcome.

I'm sorry you are going through this but there products are full of chemicals. Some babies get away with it, but not all.

Johnson baby products have in the past contained formaldehyde (which they label as something else), parabens and phthalates. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen, the other 2 have been linked to breast cancer (though some debate this link). Johnsons have previously said they plan to eliminate these from their brands, so I'm not sure what their current products contain. However, Johnsons aren't the only brand who include these ingredients.
The rash is most likely to be a topical reaction to any number of the chemicals in the product.
My DCs have sensitive skin, they even react to many 'green' products, it can be case of trial and error finding the product that suits you LO.

What does everyone use???

Does anyone recommend Simple Baby??

TIA

Boris13 · 28/03/2014 19:24

Do they do Simple baby conditioner ????

Charmingbaker · 28/03/2014 23:35

The only 2 products that my youngest didn't react to were Neals Yard and Simple (and I tried a lot).

Is your daughter only a few months old? Just water is fine for washing - their skin is so delicate still. There are some good eco brands too; I have some of the naty wash stuff, that does for hair and body. J&J is way too perfumed for me to use. I know so many people who stop using their baby products quickly.

BuzzardBird · 29/03/2014 08:12

I used to use Daniel galvin jnr which was organic on dds hair as it was shoulder length at birth. Her body was washed with water and I had dg jnr moisturiser for her skin as it was dry. I would never have used anything non-organic on her with parabens or sulphates in.

I second using plain water. Johnson's is not nice stuff. Organic children have a good range as does welida.

DD had an awful reaction to Johnson's Baby Lotion - ambulance was called. Her skin was completely burning.

Johnsons were totally not interested. Had the nerve to send me a £3 voucher after being sent the ambulance report and photos of the damage to DD.

wheresthelight · 29/03/2014 20:59

my dd is allergic to something in johnsons - she came up in exactly the same sort of rash as you describe. It is quite common for it to cause a reaction apparently so my HV told me. They are highly perfumed

i use Simple now and infacare in her bath. It took bloody weeks for the rash to clear up and poor DD scratched until she bled frequently.

defuse · 29/03/2014 21:10

I would also stick to plain water as much as possible. DD reacted to johnson products, oilatum and E45 too. I was ok with simple all-in-one but still use it sparingly. Hydromol bath emolient was what worked for us. With DD2, her skin was fine, so i started using simple all-in-one a bit more generously with her. When i just mentioned it to my GP in passing, she told me to stop using it and stick with hydromol even with DD2.

BikeRunSki · 29/03/2014 21:14

Just blob a bit of Johnson's baby shampoo on a painted surface and leave it for a couple of days to see how harsh it is.

BikeRunSki · 29/03/2014 21:15

I used plain water and Oilatum

J&J is hideous stuff, cleverly marketed.

Daniel Galvin Jr is lovely. Also PureAdore, Burt's Bees, Method Baby (I think they might have discontinued it now) or Naked Baby.

Harsh foaming agents (sodium Lauryl sulphate/ sodium Laureth sulphate) are well known irritants. The cancer link is a little dubious, but the link to SLS/SLES & parabens inflaming skin is not.

eragon · 30/03/2014 16:22

I would NEVER recommend J & J baby products, too much perfume for a start!

my sons head swelled with the shampoo, and I cant use the lotion on my face without going red and eczema.

arianah2014 · 01/04/2014 13:38

My daughters only 12weeks old.Was using just water its only 3weeks ago I started using the lotion(she was always sick after her feed nd burning her.and the smell was under her chin was awful so After giving her a bath id use the lotion v.light on her skin.but today I've filled in a medical questionire from Johnson nd sent the 3products back and now important using oilatum prescribed by my gp.
