DS' cold(?) is getting worse

DS is 15 months and started with a really snotty nose yesterday. By last night he had an awful phlegmy cough and was burning up (39.5 ish) but calpol brought down his temperature nice and quickly.

He's got worse all day and now his breathing is fast and shallow, he's wheezing and the calpol is taking longer to bring his temp down and wearing off quicker.

Am I okay to leave him til the morning or is it an NHS direct job? He seems okay as soon in himself as soon as I get his temp down. He's in bed with me talking in his sleep (think it's the fever).

If he's wheezing I would call OOH and get them to arrange appointment with the on call doctor. They can check blood oxygen and prescribe Ventolin if necessary.

If he gets blue lips, floppy, unrousable... the usual serious symptoms, go to A &E. Hope things improve!

They may advise alternating Calpol with ibuprofen which is OK a and will help being down temp.

Thanks Eugene, I'd rung and gone to OOH as he didn't sound well. Ear infection and conjunctivitis in both eyes.

His oxygen levels were on their way back up and his temperature on its way down.

Now for in the night garden and bed!

Good stuff - although that doesn't sound too nice for him! Hope it clears quickly.
