High temperature for a week- should I worry?

DS is almost 3. He has had typical cold like symptoms for just over a week now - snotty nose, cough, general under the weather-ness. Last Sunday his temp was up at 40 degrees, responding to calpol but heading back up as soon as the calpol wore off. I took him to GP yesterday who gave him an inhaler for the cough, and confirms that he seems to have a cold. He has been off colour with a temperature all week, and tonight his temperature is back up at 39.6. Should I be worried or is a raised temperature for a week pretty normal?

I'd go back to your GP. A raised temp for a week suggests he might be struggling to fight off whatever infection he has.

That's a pretty high temperature, normally indicates an infection

Go back to the GP.
Often what starts as just a cold can end up as an infection.
