Encaphilitis

My best friend's DD (almost 2) has been diagnosed with encaphilitis and is in intensive care. My heart is breaking for her. She calls me once a day for a couple of minutes and sends me sporadic texts. It sounds like the very definition of hell Hmm

I am so worried.

I hope things are going better for your friend's daughter soon. Our DD was in intensive care at a similar age and it was very scary at the time, but we came through the other side - not encephalitis but she was seriously ill and lucky to make it. I have a friend who has had a young child with encephalitis though and he is very much a lively little boy these days with no long term effects. Your friend's daughter is in the right place and hopefully will respond well to her care. Be there for your friend when she needs you and that really is frustratingly all you can do for now at least. It may sound a bit bizzare but in some ways I think maybe it is worse to be on the periphery of things like you are. At least we were involved with DD when she was ill, where other family just had to rely on waiting for updates. I'm sure it was extremely hard for them from that point of view.

Thank you for your lovely reply. I have had some positive texts today and yesterday, saying she is definitely improving and even showing signs of getting back to herself. My poor friend, she has literally been to hell and back.
