Her nursery just rang me, in alot of pain apparently?

Basically I go to uni full time so she's in nursery alot. This morning I dropped her off she'd been horrible to get ready, tantrums galore. My uni's about an hour away by train and they have just rang me up saying that she's in alot of pain when she wee's, it red, there's white discharge coming out and the wee has a strong smell. They want me to get her to the doctor's right away but I'm not going to get there for at least a couple of hours while I get to station and wait for the train etc. But now because of the long wait i'm going out my mind with panic. Should I take her to hospital? Is it bad? Anyone's three year old had this before? Need someone to talk to about this

Will you be able to get an appointment with the gp this afternoon? Maybe phone ahead and check. In the meantime can the nursery give calpol or neurofen?

Don't panic! You are getting there as soon as you can, you can't do any more yet. It sounds like she has a urine infection and will likely need antibotics. my ds had one once and like you said was grumpy in morning and screaming by the afternoon.

Can you book a doctor's appointment for when you get back there?

Call the GP in advance, tell them you're coming and will be there at roughly whatever time. Could you get a taxi just this once?

Why don't you call your GP for advice on the way? She will need to be seen by someone, but at least the GP can tell you whether they think they will be able to deal with it. You need clear details from the nursery to do this.

Don't panic, a little bit of blood goes a long way when diluted in urine.

I'm assuming you don't have anyone else to go pick her up and take her to thy doctors until you get there, a grandparent, close friend etc?

Can't get a taxi my bank card was stolen at weekend so only have cash on me for my train fare (which i've already spent for the return ticket) and some lunch. I've rang the doctor's but their one of those where there's never another app till next week and the receptionist said they'd have to ring me back because she doesn't think she can fit her in x

If GP can't see her for that long I'd go to A and E. Horrible when they are in pain.

Do you have a walk in centre locally then? If not A and E.

Can you ask nursery to try to get a sample off her if she goes to the toilet again?

Anyone else who can pick her up in the meantime and meet you at walk in centre/A and E with her?

also have you asked someone on your course about a lift? I know I would happily give a fellow student a lift in such circumstances

Got through okay, there was a train just about to leave. However the doctor rung me back and unfortunately the one who has taken our appointment is one who I have problems with and thinks because I am a young mother I'm too inadequate to raise her and know about illnesses. Told the doctor everything the nursery told me, and she said it's probably nothing and your overreacting. She asked what her bum was like this morning I told her how this morning I didn't change her pull up because it was dry, so I actually hadn't seen what her bum looked like this morning. We didn't do the toilet because it was a rush and I knew the nursery would toilet her when she got there. Now she's heard that she's saying my daughter's probably just got a sore bottom because of my fault to not change her pull up over after a night and I just need put some cream on it and try to do better for her next time. Think we'll be going to a and e because i'm not happy with this result. The woman hasn't even seen her just spoke to me on the phone whilst I was on the train.

So a young child is passing blood and the GP is saying its nothing without even seeing the child? I hope you are going to put in a complaint about the GP!

Ds2 had similar and I brought him to ooh docs and they gave him abs which helped very quickly.

If the docs fob you off just bring her to a&e, urine infections are horrible and ime don't clear on their own when they get this bad.

Boris - whats just a shitty, uncalled for comment, there is nothing wrong with how the OP describes her DD, no one uses their children's names on here FFS.

How is she? I really hope that she got seen and that you made a complaint about the gp, if she has a urine infection then she needs antibiotics.

I really dislike the way young mothers are patronised by health professionals, it just doesn't happen when you have babies in your 30s(like me). You should definitely complain about that GP

They have put her on a watch and have to take her back tomorrow to have a check as they couldn't see anything abnormal on tests. For now she has steroid creams to take away some of the red rawness from her bottom and entrance. If you understand what I mean. The cream is horrible though and really stings her. We put applied it before bedtime and I had her in my arms for half an hour screaming and crying. To the point where my flat neighbours knocked to see if everything was okay. x

That's great that you have got some proper help. The gp sounds rubbish. I found the steroid cream to work quickly on ds when his bum was bad.
Letting the air around it might also help. Apart from that calpol and cuddles . I hope she feels better soon.

Sorry to hear this OP. My DS2 had really sensitive skin, and the judgy remarks when he got bad nappy rash were awful. People don't realise just how quickly young children's skin can flare up, no matter how careful you are with cream, and changes etc

I suggest that you ask the GP to swab her skin, in case she has a bacterial infection or thrush. Also, don't be stingy with the steroid cream. My gp watched me doing DS2's cream routine one time, and told me to put about 3 times as much on as I was doing (I had taken the advice to use sparingly too literally). You need about a finger length of cream for the nappy area. Be sure to put the steroid cream on first, before any other emollients, or nappy rash cream, and preferably put other creams on during a separate session. Hope she feels better soon.
